PhotoWorks for Macintosh requires a Macintosh with a 68020 or greater processor, Apple System software 7.1 or greater, 32-bit Color Quickdraw, and 4MB of application RAM.
For enhanced application performance, we recommend a Macintosh with a 68030 or greater processor, Apple System software 7.5 or greater, 8MB of application RAM, and a graphics card set to 24-Bit Color.
Important: depending upon the speed of your processor, some commands may execute slower than others, particularly the loading of images and thumbnails. If you see the mouse pointer's "SFW" cursor spinning, everything is fine, just be patient.
If 32-bit addressing is not turned on, you will encounter a warning message when you open PhotoWorks.
To turn on 32-bit addressing, double-click the MEMORY icon in the CONTROL PANELS folder (located inside your System Folder). Click the "ON" button in the 32-Bit Addressing dialog box, close the MEMORY CONTROL PANEL, and RESTART your MAC. When your MAC restarts, 32-Bit Addressing will automatically be turned on.
3. PHOTOWORKS OVERVIEW

In PhotoWorks, you can either view Images, or create an Album for your images. With images, you can Zoom In and Out, Rotate, and Mirror. With an album, you have the ability to run a slideshow of your images.
To start the PhotoWorks application, simply double-click the PhotoWorks icon. The PhotoWorks menu will appear at the top of the Desktop.
(You will initially be greeted with a splash screen letting you know how to inexpensively get more photo images from your 35mm color print film from Seattle FilmWorks. This screen will automatically close after a few seconds; to view it again, simply click ABOUT PHOTOWORKS in the Apple Menu.)
To OPEN an image or album, or create a NEW album, click on the applicable command in the FILE Menu. The NEW command will create an UNTITLED ALBUM; the OPEN command will bring up a dialog box allowing you to select an image or an existing album (for convenience, a pull-down menu has been included to select display of either all files, only images, only albums, or only SFW files).
There are several ways to add images to an album. You can either add individual images, add all the images in a folder, or add bundled images sent to you over the Internet using our PhotoMail service.
To add selected images, click on ADD IMAGES ... in the ALBUM menu. Then locate the folder containing your images, click on the image and press the ADD button for each image to be added to the album, the click on DONE when you are ready to add the images to the album. Please be patient as the time to add images into an album takes a few minutes.
To add all the images from a folder, click on ADD IMAGES FROM FOLDER, locate the folder , then click on the SELECT "folder name" button. Note, the individual image names will not be displayed in the dialog box.
To add images from a PhotoMail file (a file ending in .PWP), click on ADD IMAGES FROM PHOTOMAIL, locate the PhotoMail source file, select a destination folder, and click EXTRACT.
To save your album, simply click SAVE or SAVE AS from the FILE Menu, and fill-in a file name.
To delete images from an album, first open the album. Then select REMOVE IMAGES from the ALBUM Menu. In the dialog box, highlight the images to be removed, then click REMOVE.
7. VIEWING/SAVING AN IMAGE

To see a larger version of your image, simply open an album and click on the image (or double-click the image icon on the Desktop). The image will initially open at a scale smaller than 1:1.
Within the IMAGE Menu are commands to: change to ACTUAL SIZE (1:1), ZOOM IN and ZOOM OUT.
The IMAGE Menu also includes commands to: ROTATE CLOCKWISE, ROTATE COUNTER CLOCKWISE, and MIRROR (reverse) the image.
To save an image, simply select SAVE or SAVE AS in the FILE Menu. Note, SAVE AS also provides the ability to save the image as a PICT file for use in other software.
8. TITLING IMAGES

The titles/captions of images in albums and slideshows are simply the name of the files. To change a caption, just change the file name from the Desktop.
The SLIDESHOW feature of PhotoWorks automatically cycles through full-screen versions of all the images in a selected album.
Before viewing the slideshow, set-up the various options available by selecting SLIDESHOW OPTIONS ... in the ALBUM Menu. A dialog box will appear asking you to choose: Image display size, whether to show the Caption (file name), and whether you want the images cycled based on mouse and keyboard interaction or a preset timer cycle. Select the options you desire then click OK.
Note, the preset timer times refer to the delay between images. Depending upon your processor speed, the time required to load images will vary between 2-20 seconds per image. Therefore, the actual cycling time will be the delay plus the loading time.
10. VIEWING A SLIDESHOW

Once the Options have been selected, simply select RUN SLIDESHOW from the ALBUM Menu. To stop the slideshow, click the mouse once.
